Celebration of Mid-Autumn; a Chinese festival at Ullens School

13 September, 2019

Mid Autumn festival is celebrated on the 15th August of the lunar calendar. It is a time for family members gathering to enjoy the full moon - an auspicious symbol of abundance, harmony and luck. At night the moon is round and bright and people enjoy the moon eating moon-cakes; the special food for this festival.

While admiring the diversity in the school, students from grade 1-5 celebrated Mid-Autumn; a Chinese festival in the school. Students from grade 3-5 played a game where they had to bounce the ball twice with ping pong bat and score a goal with a soccer ball. Students from grade 1 and 2 played candle blowing where they had to blow the candle by whispering Chinese words.  Students also wore traditional Chinese attire. At the end, students gathered around and ate moon cake to celebrate the festival. Our Chinese teachers; Fu Yifan and Lei Longhuai organized those games and helped our student learn more about Chinese culture. Students were eager to learn about the culture and celebrate the festival with their teachers.
