27 January, 2019

Ullens School has successfully hosted the extensive IC3 Regional Forum at its premises on January 26. The IC3 conference along with IC3 regional forums, IC3 Institute, is an advocacy of the IC3 movement to empower every school to run a robust, fully functioning career and college counseling department. The one-day conference saw a footfall of approximately 100 participants from the education sector and several universities across the world including Nepal as well. The event started with inauguration ceremony by chief guest Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, professor of STEM education, Kathmandu University.

Our principal Medin Lamichhane addressed the conference and welcomed all the delegates, following which, chief guest Dr. Luitel delivered a presentation and speech on the relevant issue. Chair of IC3 conference Mr Ganesh Kohli first shed light on what really is IC3 and its objectives. Keynote speaker Ms Juan Liu further stressed on the importance of career counselling. Some of the attending organizations and universities were USEF-Nepal, Asian University for Women, City University of Hong Kong, Northern Arizona University, University of Wisconsin- Stout, Indian School of Hospitality, Kathmandu University, Islington college and Kings college among others.

The conference mainly underscored the importance of career counseling and introducing a department for the same in every academic institution. It drew attention towards how serious it is to counsel a student before he/she decides what profession he will study. Administrators/ counselors shared their idea of counseling on choosing a perfect career and how can they make it more understandable and acceptable by facilitating an exchange of ideas with the help of social media, technology, and various other information systems. It advocated for students’ personal choice to choose the career rather than going to any stereotypical choice of occupation, after whims or coming under parents’ influence, that can ultimately mean a loss of academic years, mental instability and many other disorders and setbacks in one’s life. Along with educating and explaining about the indispensable value of counseling in the academic sector, the universities also got the opportunity to network with personalities, and students and their parents from various other schools including Rato Bangla, GEMS, Kasthmandap Vidhyalaya, Trinity International College, Saint Xavier's College, Aakshara School, Budhanilkantha School, Lincoln School, Kathmandu International Study Cente, Little Angel's College, St. Capitanio School, Palpa, Gandaki Boarding School, Pokhara, Orchid School, Chitwan, New Capital School, Chitwan and Ullens alumni.

The IC3 conference is held in several countries every year. Ullens left no stone unturned to make IC3 a success in Nepal this year, with its warm hospitality and entertaining performances by its students, who also extended their voluntary support in the event.
