Learning Beyond Classroom – Grade Eleven Students Support Community Schools in Dhading

As part of their Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Project, our Grade Eleven students dedicated their weekly voluntary service hours to supporting community schools in Dhading.

During their time there, they tutored and mentored local students, helped in upkeeping the school facilities, supplied necessary resources, and engaged with community members to better understand their lives, needs, and challenges.

At Ullens School, we believe in nurturing a strong sense of empathy and social responsibility among children and youth. This initiative reflects our philosophy of teaching our students the importance of compassion, service, and supporting those in need.

The DoE Award is the world’s leading youth achievement program, encouraging young people to serve their communities, embrace adventure, and grow beyond the classroom.

Under this award, Ullens School offers its high school students the ‘Gold Level’ of the Award, which is for students aged 16 and above. Students complete the following five sections under this level.

Service: The Service section of the Award encourages young people to volunteer their time to and understand the benefits of this service to their community.

Skills: The Skills section of the Award encourages the development of personal interests and practical and social skills.

Physical Recreation: This section of the Award encourages young people to participate in sport and other physical recreation for the improvement of health and fitness.

Adventurous Journey: The Adventurous Journey section encourages a sense of adventure whilst undertaking a team journey or expedition. As part of a small team, participants will plan, train for, and undertake a journey with a defined purpose in an unfamiliar environment.

Residential Project: The Residential Project, completed only at the Gold level, aims to broaden participants’ horizons through involvement with others in a residential setting.
